The Brenner house is loosely based on the Green-Meldrim House on Madison Square, a Gothic Revival mansion with a crenelated roofline that makes it look like a very small, very elegant castle. General Sherman used it as his headquarters in 1864.

The Old Powder Magazine is real, and it’s on Ogeechee Road. The real one is a small Gothic Revival brick building with three-foot-thick walls and crenellations along the top, built by the City of Savannah in 1898 to store black powder and dynamite far from anybody’s house. It’s the only surviving municipal powder magazine in Georgia; it joined the National Register of Historic Places in 2025. Please admire it from the road. It’s roofless, unstable, and very much closed to the public.
